YOUNG CHICKEN FARMERS is
a charming and informative book. It's bright colorful pages feature
children and chicks, and I think it delivers it's information in
kid-friendly manner.
The book
begins, thankfully, with some things that children and adults ought to
consider before taking on a chicken project. It's not all egg
collecting, after all. There are buildings to construct and chores to
do.
**The author has special info for adults where she talks about things like zoning laws.
After
those considerations, the author discusses all sorts of chicken facts;
how different varieties of chickens have different personalities, and
different colored eggs. Buying chickens, setting up an indoor space for
chicks, coops and feed and watering, are all covered in good order.
At 32 pages, you won't get all the ins-and-outs a professional might
need, but this little book definitely has a great deal of information
for children (and adults) who are interested in chickens.
- With very young children -- I would look at the pictures of cute chicks and chickens and talk about colors and finding eggs.
- With slightly older children -- there is so much more to discuss. Predators and housing and feeding; evolution, and even responsibility.
So if you or one of
yours is interested in chickens this is definitely a book that I would
recommend. There's just a lot of information, and plenty to appreciate
and learn.
