THE DEADLIEST JOBS ON EARTH is
part of Connie Colwell Miller's "Deadly Series". [Deadliest Animals on
Earth, ...Deadliest Bugs, ...Places, ...Plants, ...Weather.]
These
are colorful, bright books that tend to appeal to kids who like
factoids and non-fiction. This particular book is at the Lexile 730
level.
As
in her other books, Ms. Miller builds some 'tension' by sorting the
danger in categories from 'sort of dangerous' to EXTREMELY dangerous.
And I do think these categories also help children to think about these
jobs in a more analytical manner. Why is X-job, for example, more
dangerous than Y-job.
The
format is straight forward. Most of the text is on the left-hand side,
while there is usually a factoid on the right. There is nothing
actually gross or graphic.
Recommend for classroom shelves, and as a library-borrow.
