I'm a Shark is a delightfully funny book about a shark that's all bravado. He boasts to his friends that he's toughest thing in the ocean, and that even big old dinosaurs would skedaddle if he was around.
All the examples work in his favor until Crab asks about creepy spiders, and that's when we get to see Shark's insecure side.
Bob Shea's drawings are simple and cheerful with expressions that will have adults grinning along with the kids.

Children are going to love identifying with Shark's dual nature. They'll root for his really brave side and they will totally understand that even brave guy's have weak spots. Spiders... ewww.
I'm a Shark is a great read-aloud. It would make a fine addition to an early elementary classroom bookshelf. Non-readers can easily recall the story when viewing the pictures, and beginning readers can practice on the AR 1 text.
