12 DANCING PRINCESSES by Brigette Barrager

12 Dancing Princesses bookcover

Just out this month is a delightful version of the 12 Dancing Princesses. It's a book that reminds me of the Little Golden books I used to read as a child. The princesses are large-eyed and have that classic Golden book prettiness.

In this particular version (and there are many), Brigette Barrager has pared away all but the bare bones of the story. The princesses dance the night away, but they aren't aware of what they are doing. And while scientists and princes try to solve the riddle of the worn out shoes, it's the Princesses' shoemaker Pip that finally figures things out.

At 40 pages, Barrager's Twelve Dancing Princesses makes for a nice read-aloud for the under 6 set. The book itself is lovely and would make a nice gift.

Thank you Hatchett and Chronicle Books!
