You don't need to spend even a hundred bucks to read ebooks. And You don't need a Nook or a Kindle to enjoy carrying your latest read around with you. Barnes and Noble and Amazon both provide free software that you can download to whatever PC or Apple device that you already own. I have Kindle software, for example, on the kids' computer, my Mac, and my iTouch and am getting ready to download B&N's software to all these same machines.
The advantage to ebooks is that you can read them when YOU have time -- while waiting for the kids to get out of school; while they are playing at the park; or while riding on the subway or bus to and from work. Lost bits of time are yours to reclaim.
Another advantage is that there are plenty of cheap and free books out there. Free versions of Jane Austin, Caesar, and Jules Verne are out there. In addition there are many dollar-books by new authors in every genre.
Gone are the days of toting around huge volumes. One's collection of George Orwell can be carried on your ipad, phone, or laptop.
