DAY and NIGHT by Teddy Newton

If your children have seen this Pixar movie short, then chances are they are going to want to revisit the fun with the DAY and NIGHT book.

In appearance DAY and NIGHT is very much like the movie. The pages are slick, black, and sturdy, and Day and Night frolic across them -- although in a much smaller format.

One of the reasons to get this book is that it more clearly explains Day and Night's story. And I mention this because, honestly, after we left the movies -- it was a super large family gathering with people ranging from age 8 to 78 -- it became apparent that some of us (who shall remain nameless ; ) didn't understand what had gone on.

So having a book that has words ought to help children (and adults) realize that Day and Night, who initially didn't hit it off, came to understand that they did have some things in common, and that though they were different, that wasn't a bad thing at all, but a really wondrous thing.

THE SKINNY:::
DAY and NIGHT seems like a sturdy book. The slick black pages show the images well; although of course they aren't 6 feet tall and back lit.

Unlike the movie short, the book isn't wordless and this gives adults the opportunity to explain the storyline.

The one drawback I found was that on some of the pages the characters weren't drawn big enough. One example is where Night is sleeping and inside of him there are sheep jumping a fence. Even with my mightiest spec's I could barely tell what they were. My kids could however, so maybe this is only a problem for we older moms.

Nice...the short was fun. Had no idea they'd made a book out of the idea. It was very creative and I think it'd be fun to have a tangible form to go back to and interact with.

I'll have to check it out. :)
