Here's my list of The BEST Kidlit books that I've read in 2010.
Generally speaking all were worth reading and sharing with children, with one exception. Garfield Farm Friends is the only book I suggest you bury in the backyard. (Fortunately you're not likely to run across it.)
Out of this list of 75 books there were a few surprises. For one I was just astonished that we --talking my two kiddo's and myself -- didn't care much for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. It was okay, but not as spectacular as we were expecting. (Go figure.) And I thought that the Goodnight Moon ABC book was nothing to get excited about either. It's an okay extension of the brand, but not a book we'd recommend you add to the home shelves.

Which brings us to the books that I did think stood out from the pack. Some I/we appreciated for the wonderful artwork, while others just had a fabulous message or were just downright useful to have around. Here's the run down of what and why. Followed by a list of all the KidLit that crossed my path.
In no particular order:
South by Patrick McDonnell (for it's sunny message of how we should help others) our review
The Monster Trap (for it's creative and wonderful artwork)
Bunnicula (which we've read before and will probably read again. Just a great story.)
Chicken Big (for it's wonderful message and hilarity) our review
Martha Doesn't Share (for it's shear usefulness in demonstrating to children why sharing is a good idea)
The Rooster Prince of Breslov (fabulous story)
The Adventures of Ook and Gluk (for being fun and boy-friendly)
The Apple Pie Tree (an oldie but goodie. This is just a great book about the seasons)
How Rocket Learned to Read (which I think is probably the best book to give teachers and anyone who loves learning and teaching)
It's a Book (which I thought is really for adults more than kids. It makes me laugh each time I read it)
A Midsummer Night's Dream (Shakespeare Can Be Fun!)(for making Shakespeare accessible to kids)
The Trouble with Chickens by Doreen Cronin (which isn't out yet, but it's so funny and a good 'gripping' read)
Shark vs Train (which is just a great boy-friendly book that a mom and boy can really share)
