Dora's Thanksgivingby Sarah Willson
Robert Roper (Illustrator)
3.61 avg rating — 36 ratings
In
this book Dora tells us all about the things she is thankful for. I
love the format for this. Dora asks a question, giving children clues
like: "There is another person in my family who I am thankful for. She
is older and she tells me stories about my mami when she was a little girl". Answer: mi abuela.

Clifford's Thanksgiving Visit by Norman Bridwell
3.89 avg rating — 377 ratings
Emily Elizabeth has gone to grandmothers, and in her absence Clifford gets lonely and decides to visit his mom in the city.
His
adventures in getting there are pretty funny. He gets snarled in
traffic and is surprised by the Macy's Day parade (or something like
it.) The focus of the book though is his adventures and not on being
thankful.

Here are two families that don't seem to have much in common. One has a Thanksgiving dinner that is coming out perfect. For the other family it's mostly smoke from things that are burning.
What do they have in common?
(They are thankful.)
"Our smoke alarm is wailing.
Our turkey, burnt as toast.
Dad spills the gravy down his shirt-
a less-than-perfect host".

Beginning
Spanish vocabulary is mixed into the text of this story about a turkey
and boy who saves him from being the center attraction at Thanksgiving
supper. (Really, Papa should have known that Miguel would get
attached to the cute little guy.)
Note that this book has a lot of text.

A delightful story which starts off with a burnt dinner.
Ann
and Ed are an elderly couple who are celebrating Thanksgiving all
alone. When dinner is ruined Ed drags Ann off to a cafe. Thing is
though, that the tables at the restaurant are all set up for a private
family dinner.
From
the kitchen the immigrant family wonders what to do. Grandma knows,
and they end up inviting the Ed and Ann to their very different
celebration. And a fabulous time is had by all.
