Review: MYTHICAL MONSTERS: The Scariest Creatures from Legends, Books, and Movies -Chris McNab, editor

My daughter picked this book up at a Scholastic Book Fair.  She's a new teen who happens to prefer non-fiction and mythology and creepy stories, so obviously  MYTHICAL MONSTERS: The Scariest Creatures from Legends, Books, and Movies was a good match for her.

Above is an image of the Table of Contents.  As you can see the book covers quite a few monstrous critters.  Modern monsters and ancient ones.

The format is to have a close up of the monster on the first page, with more detailed info on the second.  Here's an example of the approach, featuring the mummy.

I particularly like the "Where In The World" box which shows where the legends originated.

There are no photos from movies, and the book doesn't offer exhaustive information.  But for teens and younger readers this approach is about right.

Would make a good choice for the right reader.

That's part of a series of books about monsters (and even one volume about nocturnal animals). They include:

Mythical Monsters: The Scariest Creatures from Legends, Books, and Movies - Chris McNab (2006) The copy you found was probably a new edition, but the contents are the same.

Dragons: Fearsome Monsters from Myth and Fiction by Gerrie McCall (Editor) (2007)

Unicorns: Magical Creatures from Myth and Fiction by Mia Di Francesco (2007)

Monsters and Villains of the Movies and Literature - Gerrie McCall (Author) (2008)

Cryptids and Other Creepy Creatures: The World of Unsolved Mysteries - John D. Wright (2009)

Vampires, Werewolves & Zombies Paperback - Lisa Regan (Author) (2009)

Monsters in the Night - Lisa Regan (2010)

Mythical Monsters: Legendary, Fearsome Creatures - Gerrie McCall and Chris McNab (2011)

World's Worst Monsters & Villains Scary Creatures of Myth, Folklore, and Fiction - Kieron Connolly (Author) (2012)

I don't know if there are any since then. I expected one in 2013 and found your page looking for any follow-ups.
