THE SNOWY DAY by Ezra Keats is the 1963 Caldecott Medal winner. Keats tells the tale of a boy waking up to discover that snow has fallen during the night. The book beautifully captures the childhood wonder of snow; and it was notable at the time because it presented the reading public with a child with dark skin in an urban setting.
