LIKES
--solid rhyme makes this book an easy read-aloud
--the text is structured so that it begs for the child to complete the couplet
--each dog displays their own number tag which accomplishes two purposes. First, it associates the phonetic sound with a digit. And second, it serves as a visual cue so that children learn to look at the artwork in books for clues as to what the words might mean, and of course, it helps so they don't get it wrong.
------I particularly LIKE that at the end ten cats are introduced so that children can practice reading to not only 10 but 20!

WASN'T CRaZy ABOUTS
--I thought some of the rhymes might not be all that meaningful to very young children. "Call me Buddy, I'm dog number...(six), as nighttime falls we're a happy mix." Okay I suppose.
This would be a good selection for a classroom where children could pick it up on their own after it's been read aloud to them a few times.
Special note: I read this one as an ebook, so cannot comment on how sturdy the book is.
