8/14/11 Sunday Salon --Looking Forward ~ Looking Back... This Week In Books

Oh my gosh... so much good reading lately, I hardly know where to start.

ON THE NIGHTSTAND

Be the Pack Leader by Cesar Millan

This is a really interesting book from the Dog Whisperer. I think he provides some excellent insight into dog psychology.

This book contains information on how to correct 'bad dog' behavior along with some stories taken from real life.

I wish there had been information about raising pup -- since we have one that 12 weeks old -- but I understand that this isn't the focus of this book.

Note to lady whose Miniature Pinscher mauled my son at the Vet's office: You really NEED this book before you get sued.

Indiana Jones and the Golden Fleece - volumes 1 and 2

This is a fun graphic novel written at the 2nd and 3rd grade levels. (AR 2.6 for volume 1; AR 3.1 for volume 2)

The story involves the Golden Fleece of old. It's an important relic that has been lost in time because it was desecrated. Indie finds it and looses it, of course, only to regain it with the help of the very pregnant Omphale.

With scant violence and no love interest, this one was fun for my 9 year-old Dave and myself. VERY expensive, reserve this one at the library!

This is an excellent follow-up to Emily Diamand's Raiders' Ransom. In this book Lilly and Lexy find themselves trying to save 'Puter, who desperately needs a recharge. Their paths cross with Zeph's who has his own problem with the Families and his hateful brother, Roba. And suffice it to say that it's interesting to finally see Scotland and the Security Computer that has ultimate control over the remaining biological and nuclear weapons in the world.

Both books are written at the 4.5 AR level and would be suitable for Middle-Graders, Young Adults, and Adults.
