Oh the troubles of the heart...
The plot in this Battle Frontier book centers around affairs of the heart. You see Grovyle falls crest-over-tail for the healing-Pokemon Meganium, not knowing that she is already very much in love with Tropius. Grovyle tries to win Meganium's heart by defeating Tropius in battle, and while that aspect of the story is playing out, Team Rocket attempts to capture both Meganium and Tropius to give to their leader.
THE SKINNY:::
This is my second Pokemon book -- you can find a review of Celebi Rescue here -- and I am still impressed by the writing and the enthusiasm boys show for this series. (I wish you could see how worn out this well thumbed volume is.)
As far as format, there text is fairly large and the chapters are about 5 to 7 pages long.
As far as the bad guys, they are perfectly acceptable (imo) for even very young children. They're the sort of bad guys that know they are bad. In fact, they make it perfectly clear that they are bad in both text and song. (Yes, they sing ditties sometimes about the trouble they are going to make.)
My son, who's 9 years as of this date, can read one of these little books in a single session-- although he sometimes stretches it out to two nights. The fact that he can read the entire book in one session has been very good for his 'reading' ego. The first time, when he breezed through Celebi Rescue, he turned to me with the biggest grin and declared that he was done! Not quite believing it. He then begged me to schedule a visit to the library the next day to get another book. This leaves me to conclude that this is good boy-stuff!
