by David A. Adler

In these books fifth-grader Jennifer "Cam(era)" Jensen solves mysteries with the help of friends and her photographic memory. To help young readers to pick up on the clues, the author has Cam shut her eyes at various points in the story and go 'click' like a camera, to fix a scene in her mind.

Capital Mysteries
by Ron Roy

Ron Roy's first successful kid series was the A to Z mysteries. In this series he gives two amateur sleuths,
KC Corcoran and Marshall Li, access to the White House, with the Nation's Capital as a backdrop.

This series is at the AR 3 and 4 levels. (Mostly 3)

CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS
by Dav Pilkey

Never underestimate the power of underwear! Honestly, if you have a hesitant reader --especially a boy-- try them out on this series. We were surprised to find that it is at the AR 4-5 level because somehow readers who supposedly read at much lower levels frequently check these books out and they certainly figure out what's going on.
(Must be the cartoons.)

The principle characters are two 4th Grade boys -- Harold and George -- and the Principle they accidentally hypnotize into becoming Captain Underpants!

  • Captain Underpants and the Terrifying Return of Tippy Tinkletrousers (TBA)
  • Captain Underpants and the Brainy Bamboozle of Black Cheetah Man (TBA)

CHET GECKO Mystery Series
by Bruce Hale

Ages: Middle-grade and some Tweeners will love this series

Chet Gecko is a 4th grade detective and a comedian with attitude. He's also a lizard! Chet loves two things in life: solving mysteries and devouring dessert. The first book in this entertaining series, THE CHAMELEON WORE CHARTREUSE, introduces us to Chet and his mockingbird partner, Natalie Attired ("nattily attired" --- get it?). It sets a wacky tone --- ridiculous puns, groaner jokes, and bug-filled menus, not to mention mysteries. Throughout the series, the silly synonyms fly faster than a spitwad storm in a substitute teacher's classroom.

CURIOUS GEORGE
by Margret and H. A. Rey

If your child(ren) loves Curious George, the series is a great addition to the home shelves. A great read aloud, the series easily transitions into practice reader at the AR 2 level.

Notes: The original Curious George books are over 50 years old and many parents don't care for the beginning books because they don't have modern sensibilities.

There are many other books in this series by the Heys and other authors. If you would like reading information on them, drop us a line and we'll add them to this list. (They also come in book/CD sets)

Available in Espanol and English/Spanish!
