I've already talked about my TOP Kidlit and Middle-Grade reads this year, and now it's time to talk about the more adult books that have crossed my path. To put it simply my Young Adult reading this year has been fabulous, even more successful than that in the Middle-grade and Kid categories. No explanation, I just lucked upon some excellent reads.
That said I also had more books in the YA category that truly disappointed me. Amongst them were the two Emily the Strange books I read recently. Far from being edgy and fun, they were boring. And surprise of surprises, I found a Gary Paulsen book I didn't like. "Transall Saga" was just pretty darn juvenile and uncreative.
The other book that fell into the 'waste of time' category was I Am Number Four. Just hideously awful with it's cliches and derivative dialog that was probably stolen from 1950's books and movies.
So what were the GREAT BOOKS?

Now my friends are probably scratching their heads right now because these books don't fall into what I would call my 'core' genres of interest. They aren't scifi/fantasy adventure books, and they aren't dystopias. Instead what they are is extremely well written books that had me returning to think about them day after day. They are books that speak to the heart. That have their own inner magic. I love them and I hope you'll check them out.
