MG and YA

On this website we use two picture icons meant to guide adults and children about content. The first is "YA" and the second is "MG".

YA books are those meant for Young Adults. This doesn't mean that they cannot be read by adults nor younger children, only that there may be subject matter that adults might want to consider before offering a book to others. For example, there may be cursing, violence, sex, and adult situations. And if these books were movies they might have a PG-13 or R rating.

MG is a new rating being used by many librarians. These books are very much like YA books except that there will be little or no cursing, only extremely mild violence, no sex, nor adult situations. If they were movies they would be PG or G-rated.
