Sunday SalonDidn't post last week because of the Holidays. But our reading hasn't slowed down much. Here's some of the books that have come into our home in the last couple of weeks.
In came:

Banana-Berry Smoothies and Other Breakfast Treats
My daughter brought this one home from school. I believe I detect a subtle message.

Farwalker's QuestJust finished this one and loved it. In fact, it ended up on my best of 2009 list.

Cool Cat
(so-so)

The Wolves in the Walls
(surprisingly so-so)

Medusa
(so-so)

The Dangerous Alphabet
(so-so)

Into Thin Air(Obviously not kid fair. Very good)

K2
(Also not kid fair. Very good)

The Invention of Hugo Cabret
(good)

Zoe's Tale
(good YA)
Going Bovine
(Unusual YA. I quite liked it, but it won't be for everyone.)
Frindle
(My 9 yo is reading this for class. We're both liking it.)
Hope this gives you some ideas. Good Hunting and Good Reading one and all.

"Frindle"! Hmm, this seems to be nostalgia week (month?) here. "Findle"'s great. I remember my class read it when I was 9 and we all thought it was the funniest book in the world. Retrospect makes me suspect that we exaggerated our enthusiasm a little but I remember it fondly.
LOL, Biblio! This is such a fun book, and I'm absolutely surprised at how sophisticated it is. I mean, basically this book deals with issues of basic linguistics, like the origins of words.
I've talked to my children about this. We frequently talk about the fact that words come from Latin and Greek, Spanish and French. But this book handles the topic so naturally that it's just wonderful.
And let's not forget how the press is hoisted on it's own petard. Hilarious.
This is a wonderful, wonderful site and such a resource for parents and kids. Well done!
Thank you so much BedBug!
