Terry Pratchett's "Nation"
has been out for awhile, so it's not exactly book news-- in fact, I was
an early reviewer of the book, and have reviews in various places like
LibraryThing and Amazon.com. I did not review "Nation" for BooksForKids-reviews
as Don and I usually focus on books for younger children and it
definitely seemed like a book better suited for adults than teens,
despite the fact that the marketing people have been pushing it as YA.
I'm
taking the time now to discuss it because there is so much Award buzz .
Take a gander at who has praised it... as well as my Mom's Take on this book.

I thought NATION was
a very funny book. In all honesty, it lagged in one or two places but
the heavy laughter it evoked kept it in the Good Read category.
HOWEVER, what religious folk (and it doesn't matter which religion) should know is that Terry isn't. He is a devout atheist and his anti-god theme is rampant in this work. Mature teens might not be bothered by this barrage of poignant anti-theist statements, but younger teens might not be ready for the sarcasm. Personally, I found the constant argument against other peoples deeply held beliefs to be tiring. But regardless of how I feel, I think it's in a parent's best interest to know if there is something in a book that they might not like.
