The story is about five little animal buddies -- Turtle, Bat, Bird, Goat and Octopus -- that are awakened in the night by a mysterious sound. Cautiously they go out to investigate and what they find in the inky darkness perplexes them. They can tell it's a large creature, but because of the moonless night they cannot see what kind. So each one then goes forwards to investigate and each finds some characteristic of the mystery creature that they believe is like themselves. Of course they are all mistaken, and this fresh re-telling of the classic folk tale vividly illustrates how things aren't always what they seem.
Quick Summary :::
"I Feel a Foot" is a very good Read-aloud and should be popular with the 5 years-and-under crowd. The story is charming and fun and the artwork is wonderful. Each page provides an entirely black background, and the vivid colors that the illustrator chose for the characters makes them seem to pop off the page. This book would make a good addition to the home library, and it is pretty enough that it would make a fine gift.
Considerations :::
I Feel a Foot has an Accelerated Reading (AR) designation of 2.0 which means that the average Entering 2nd Grader should be able to read it without getting frustrated by the vocabulary. HOWEVER, it should be noted that this book is really one to be read to babies, toddlers and preschoolers.
